Plateau LG chairman died of COVID-19, says Commissioner

The Commissioner for Health in Plateau state, Dr Nimkong Lar, on Thursday, confirmed that the late chairman of the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state, Mr Ezekiel Mandyau died of COVID-19 complications.
The Commissioner who spoke with our Correspondent in Jos on Thursday said that test results conducted on the former council chairman after his demise confirmed him positive for the disease.
The Commissioner said “We conducted a test after his demise and when the result came out, it was positive. That is what happened and we have already communicated the test results to the family”.
The Punch reports that the deceased council chairman died at the Jos University Teaching Hospital last Thursday at the age of 52
His demise was confirmed by the Leader of Barkin Ladi Legislative Council, Mr. Pam Chollom Dung.
Dung had said, ” It’s true, we were with him in the morning and he was also with some people in the afternoon and there was no problem.
“Later, we heard that they took him to the hospital only for us to hear this evening that he has passed on. It’s really sad”
It was learnt that the remains of the late council chairman were laid to rest on Thursday at Barki Ladi community in line with COVID-19 protocol.
